Roadside Assistance and Towing

Roadside Assistance and Towing

Nobody wants to think about it but it’s a fact of life that will most likely happen at one point or another in the course of our lives; emergency situations.  Especially when we are on the road the chances of facing a small to major emergency situation greatly increase.  The best thing we can do in any case is to try and prepare ahead of time for possible scenarios.  For example, we can have a small emergency preparedness kit in the trunk, with flashlights, blankets, water bottles, anti-freeze, granola bars etc, as well as always have a spare tire and jack in case of flat tires. It helps to have a small container of gasoline as well in case of running out of gas.  The other option to have on hand, or readily available is if your car breaks down and you need a tow to the nearest car repair shop or to home.

Emergency towing service is usually something that most tow truck companies will offer if you just look up towing near me. All this means is that the tow isn’t scheduled for down the road, but that you need them to come right away. So you should pre-program a few local tow truck services phone numbers into your smart phone, or write them down to have available in your car.  If you are out of state or far from home, usually you can google “towing service near me” to find the best local place that can quickly come to your aid.  Keep in mind that you can also get a membership with companies such as AAA that offer road side assistance. If not you can always pay cash to your friendly local tow truck driver to pull your car from it’s broken down spot to wherever you need to get it.

Making lists and thinking ahead of time, “What would I need if X happens?” will definitely give you a leg-up if you are ever faced with a possible emergency.  And as we mentioned before, it especially helps to be prepared when taking a trip, or a drive to anywhere.  There are still long stretches of this country that are pretty remote, and it could also happen that your battery in your phone will die, or you won’t have access to phone reception.  There are other steps you can take to prepare for these types of situations as well. But being prepared will give you peace of mind that you will be ready for whatever life throws your way.

New England Storms and Fallen Trees

New England Storms and Fallen Trees

This past winter we saw one of the worst winter storms I can remember in all my 18 years of living in New England.  As expected, we generally get a decent amount of snowfall, ice, sub zero temperatures and icy winds. However, this past March there was one storm that combined all of the above with hurricane force winds.  In true Nor’Easter fashion,  this storm wreaked havoc on neighborhoods all across Massachusetts, from the South shore towns to regions in the Metro west, and in the North it wasn’t any easier.   Not only did the high amounts of snowfall partially cripple the area but the biggest problem that came out of this particular storm was that an unusually high amount of trees fell down everywhere.  With fallen trees there is usually damage to electric wires, as well as homes and buildings.  This was the case across many towns and cities.  The electrical companies had a hell of a time not only accessing electrical but just the sheer size of the job to clear away all the fallen trees was on a larger scale than they were accustomed to dealing with.  The town of Scituate was battered with high waves and seawalls collapsing, as well as many trees fallen.

In towns across the South Shore many homeowners sought out help for tree service Brockton for clearing away their fallen trees.  We passed many houses where trees had fallen into houses, front porches, and fences.  Many tree companies were backed up for months with calls for tree work.  This was probably very good for business, however pretty miserable for many homeowners that had to wait many weeks before tree services were available to help them clear fallen trees.   The danger here is that people get impatient and frustrated waiting, and will try to take matters into their own hands, attempting to remove precarious large branches or limbs and end up getting injured as a result.  One tree guy I talked to said that when a big branch is falling, no matter how fast you think you are, you can’t outrun it!  So better safe than sorry and call a tree company before trying to do it yourself.

Matching Shingles

I’d like to tell you about what’s been going on with our breezeway roofing project. It all started and we decided to attach our house to the garage. We have a small breezeway section that’s about 15 x 10‘ long running from the house to the garage. We bought the house about a year ago and have been looking into connecting the house to the garage so in the winter when it’s really cold it would be nice and warm to pop into the garage and get something we need.

We drew up the plans found a builder who would frame it out for us and take care of excavation and foundation. Since the roof was only going to be a small section originally I thought I could take the shingles off the back of the house so they would match perfectly. My builder advised against this as the damage would be too much.  So I began a hunt to find the perfect matching shingle. I began by going to the Home Depot and Lowe’s in my area around Providence and looking for shingle samples. I know I had an architectural shingle I’m at the roof of been done in the past 10 years as it looked newer but I wasn’t sure who the manufacturer was. I decided I was going to focus on the big names, GAF, Owens Corning, Certainteed, IKO and Elk. I started with GAF Fox Hollow gray color and brought a sample home and laid it on the roof. It was close but I noticed that my roof have light and dark gray sprinkled throughout in the Fox Hollow shingle was more of a gradient. Next they tried Owens Corning gray but it was much darker than my roof shingle. Even accounting for the sun bleaching it a little overtime. I finally found my match with the IKO Do dual gray shingle. I laid it down on the roof and it was a perfect match just a slight shade darker which accounting for the age of my roof but that was probably the original color. I ended up buying about two squares of shingles along with some drip edge and ice and water shield. My spring got really busy though and I decided to look up roofing contractors rhode island for others to take care of the job for me and I’m glad I did. I got a fair price and they were in and out in a day, dumpsters and permits included. Best decision ever.

How to Choose Young Trees for a Privacy Screen

Regardless of size or style, a new home can often look bare and even naked without proper landscaping considerations, but adding trees to a new home shouldn’t be a haphazard process, there are important considerations to keep in mind with regard to tree planting, size, type, shape and purpose. For instance, do you want the trees you plant to offer home privacy, and if so, then you also need to think about growth from the moment of the planting of the young trees.

Before You Start

Sure, you can plant a tree just because it “looks beautiful” but there are also other considerations to make when adding this to your landscape design, especially if the overall purpose is to add privacy. Consider these factors before you start.

  • Purpose – What is the purpose of this tree?
  • Growth – How long will it take to grow?
  • Caring for the tree -What maintenance or grow issues will I need to deal with?

Choose the Right Tree

Not all trees work for all locations. You need to plant trees that work in your geographical area. Gardening experts have created hardiness zone maps and divided trees into this zone classification based on climate and soil conditions. For example, an Eastern Redbud won’t do well in Florida and Live Oak does not work well in Minnesota.

Moreover, you also need to determine whether you want a deciduous or coniferous tree? That is, do you want trees that drop their leaves in the fall or trees that stay evergreen in the winter? Obviously, these decisions are a personal matter, determined by your location, the style of your home, the neighborhood, the care involved, but more importantly, the type of privacy you want.

Plan It Out

Take your time and choose trees that work well in your region. Do some research to remove potential problems. Consider the area where you will be planting the young trees, the texture of the trees, the growth times and heights.

Texture

Is this simply a privacy tree or do you also want it to provide flowers and texture to your outdoor area? Or will these trees simply add greenery that emphasizes your flowering shrubs and trees. Some privacy trees offer rich greenery throughout the year, such as evergreens, while others are deciduous and lose their leaves in the winter. Decide on the texture and type of tree you want. Ask yourself, “Is it important that the tree have greenery throughout the year, or do I want trees that will change with the seasons of the year?”

Area

Another important factor is the area where you plan to plant the tree. How many feet of privacy do you need? How many feet do you have to plant trees?  This will determine the number of trees you need. You should also consider your yard size as this will help determine the size of the tree you choose.

Note that dense privacy screens will need smaller trees to be planted about 2 ft. apart and larger trees about 5 ft. apart.

Tree Care

Caring for new trees can be complicated for some trees, as they require special watering and maintenance needs. Ask a local expert like the pros at Tree Removal Lawrence MA. Check the growing requirements and maintenance needs for the types of trees you are considering.

Bottom Line

Selecting trees for a privacy screen does take some thought. The best way to choose the trees that fit in with your home is to make a list of possible tree options then take note of their growth and care needs. Eliminate the trees that have requirements that seem too difficult for your lifestyle, and then imagine what these trees will look like on your property.  When you do visit a good tree provider like tree service Framingham, be sure to ask for the proper care instructions and be sure to find out how to water new trees as there are different watering and maintenance requirements for different tree species.

Family members, best friends as well as other companions actually get symbolic and matching tattoos that illustrate a message, which has a meaning to all people involved. For example, the trend of married couples that are getting wedding band tattoos on their ring fingers are symbolizing the desire to have an eternal relationship with each other or a long lasting relationship. In addition to that, fraternity and sorority members, who are close colleagues and friends, now want to have their Greek symbols permanently tattooed to represent their pledge and group alliance. Having a tattoo with loved ones or special persons can certainly be a memorable experience, which represents one’s participation in a long lasting relationship.

Tattoos usually give people the chance to express themselves through letting the world know how they feel inside or who they really are through symbols, images, phrases or words.
